A Navimag ship takes visitors from Puerto Montt to the famous glacier lagoon San Rafael.
Icebergs as tall as houses float in the sea in front of a one-kilometre-wide and 60-m-high glacier wall - the Laguna San Rafael certainly offers visitors one of the most memorable natural spectacles in Chile. From the Patagonian Icefield an 'ice worm' makes its way into a stretched out Pacific fjord: the nearest glacier ever to the equator that meets the sea.
This display can only be reached by boat, not by land. The journey aboard the "Puerto Edén" takes you from the harbour town of Puerto Montt first across the Pacific Gulf between the mainland and the island Chiloé to Puerto Chacabuco and from there across fjords and canals to the Laguna San Rafael. In good weather conditions the boats can get very close to the glacier wall, all but a few hundred metres. The boat has a choice of cabins in several price categories and offers full board and entertainment.
